Extra Dessert Delights Mint Chocolate Chip

Flavor: I scream, you scream, we all scream for... GUM! People, this is not a test. I repeat. This is NOT a test. Or a dream, or a fantasy... it's happened. A gum that really, truly tastes not only like chocolate, but like chocolate mint ICE CREAM. As with all faux chocolate mints or gum, I was skeptical when I heard about the new line of Extra Dessert Delights. I tried desperately not to get my hopes up when our secret shopper informed me we had some pre-release Dessert Delight gum to review. It had me at the first bite. It's creamy. It's sweet. It's cold. It's minty. It's chocolatey. Folks. It's chocolate mint chip ice cream... GUM. I'm wiping back tears, here. My dream has finally come true. And... and... you can chew it for as long as you want, and it won't run out of flavor, and and... I mean, Willy Wonka would do a tumblesault. And then he'd get back up again, and he'd do another.

Texture
: As with the flavor, the texture is consistent and lasts for as long as I've dared to chew. It's that notoriously well-structured Extra texture. I'm so happy it was Extra that pulled this rabbit out of the hat.

Presentation: Does it even need a flashy package? Extra knew that no, it really didn't. The package is simple, it's sea foam green, it's got brown and white squiggles, but it's really just about the whopping bowl of ice cream front and center. Once word spreads, these packs will be flying off the shelves, creative packaging or no. The words "Sugarfree Gum" are particularly prominant here, and I think that's going to be important for marketing once the commercials start popping up. If I were Extra, I would totally go with the "guilt free indulgence" crap that people are eating up these days.

Overall: I apologize for getting sentimental, but this is really big for me, and for so many people out there. It's revolutionary-- all that garbage that "they" have been trying to feed us for years about how chewing gum can "satisfty your sweet tooth," substitute that Hersey's bar, swap out your 1000 calories for >5... it's all been a joke until now. This gum doesn't make me want chocolate like those expensive chocolate-smelling candles, nor does it leave my teeth grimy with sugar like that actual (delicious) bowl of ice cream. It's actually like chewing a bowl of refreshing, delicious, creamy (did I mention it's just so creamy?) chocolate chip mint ice cream. Oh man, here come the waterworks again. In the words of Willy himself, "Take a look and you'll see into your imagination." Even if someone doesn't roll me out of here like Violet Beauregard in the next ten minutes, I'll never be the same again.

Rating: ooooo (five gumballs) ...but only because I couldn't give it six.

Not released yet :(

But you should definitely post when they do release it so we can keep an eye out for it!

According to Wrigley's, it's going to be in stores in October. From our experience, Target always has the new gums first!

Anyone know what happened to Dentyne Blast Choco-Mint??? I hoping this will replace for me! I've been out for several months.

Walmart has them!!!!!! I got one today. Pretty good. To me, the chocolateness wasn't that dominant, but the mint was the exact flavor of Mint Chocochip ice cream.

After getting my hopes up many times about "mint chocolate" gum, I went to the computer and foud your review with this package in my hand. I popped a piece after your first sentence. Brilliant.
Thank-you for posting!

I had some of this gum, and believe me, IT IS DELICIOUS. OH MY GOD IT TASTES LIKE ICE CREAM!!!!!

The flavor lasts sooo long too, to the point you stop wanting to chew it anymore (which does happen, sadly).

It really helps control appetite too, for all your weight watchers out there!

At Fry's they already have all 3 Dessert Delights gum and it is September!

I'd been looking for this gum since I saw your review almost a month ago. Just got it today, and I'm a bit disappointed. It smells good, and it tastes good for the first ten seconds, but it loses its flavor dramatically after that and it turns out to be nothing special. :/

I need to try this. I've already tried the strawberry shortcake now I need chocolate in gum form.

I remember back in the day when Bubble Yum had a chocolate mint gum, they also had Hershey's chocolate gum as well. Both were pretty awful.

However, this stuff really does taste like mint chip ice cream.

I'm not as excited about the other flavors as lime and strawberry aren't terribly special in the gum world.

Chocolate that tastes like chocolate, holds it's flavor (the stuff was still tasting great 30 minutes in) and isn't going to keep my jeans from fitting?

I'm totally sold. I'm gonna stock up, because this stuff is awesome.

THE GUM IS OUT NOW IN Strawberry SHORTCAKE! Check It Out... NOW!

I just got back to NYC after visiting LA, where I found all three at a local Rite Aid... IMO, Keylime is the best, followed by Strawberry Shortcake, and Mint Choco Chip... Now, I rank it like that because I'm just not a huge fan of MCC icecream, but it most definitely tastes exactly like it... I just bought two cases off of amazon - if you really like the flavors you should do the same. They came out to be $1.20 a pack for me...

This gum is pretty good! I bought all three flavors today and am currently on the Mint Chip (haven't tried the other two yet, though you're definitely right about the fake strawberry smell!). It lasts a very long time and I would also like to note that it's great for snapping!

Key Lim Pie....da bomb!!!!

Now, off to try the Strawberry Shortcake and Mint Chocolate Chip!

Wish me luck<<

I bought the keylime flavor today and I was surprised. It is really really really good. I think I've found myself a new go-to gun.

I have been staring at this gum from the candy display across from my register just trying to decide if it would taste like mint chocolate chip or mint gum with chocolate.
I wants it

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream was always my favorite ice cream but I stopped eating dairy about 10 years ago... so when I got my hands on this gum, I was FLOORED!!! Every single person I talk to (stranger or not) I tell them about this gum, I should definitely be the spokesmodel because I bet I have convinced well over 1000 people to chew this gum!

this gum is amazing... it lasts for a long time, you can really taste the mint, and the chocolate is somewhat there but not as tastefull. Definitly try this gum.

I agree - I can actually use this stuff as a dessert and be satisfied. Thank you Extra!

I'm going to be one of the few dissenters here and say that this gum is actually kind of gross. As an avid fan of mint chocolate chip ice cream, I was thoroughly disappointed. The best way I can describe the flavor is spearmint gum wrapped around a Tootsie Roll center. It smells like an Andes mint, which is quite delightful, but the chocolate tastes far too artificial. Ever had the chocolate Dr. Pepper that was available for a while a few years back? The chocolate tastes exactly like that.

Katherynn said...

This gum is amazing! I like the mint flavor but the chocolate flavor is just a bit too subtle :/
But I love it!!! Thanks to it, I'm now obsessed with gum...
It tastes really good mixed with a small piece of Extra's Spearmint gum, it enhances the mint flavor and you get a better kick from the chocolate!

I FINALLY picked this up, and am nuts about it. Everything you guys say is right-- it's fantastic!

Omg! I tried some of this just yesterday! I love it much!

It is not as good as the key lime pie (which I am addicted to) but this gum is still really really good! It really is better than you might think!

Note: for Pi day, which is in a few days, March 14, buy some Key lime pie flavored gum to replace the pie!

I love chocolet mint ice cream, and I love this gum!!!!! It really satisfys my sweet tooth. I still eat the ice cream , but can keep it to a 2-3 times a week treat rather than everyday because of this gum. The strawberry shortcake and key lime pie are next to try on my lost. Can't wait!!!

Had a family member send me some from the U.S. as it's not available in Canada. It's pretty amazing gum. I'm impressed.

Someone gave me the Mint CHocolate and it's the best gum I ever chewed! But I can't find it at any CVS or Duane Reade in NYC. Help!

This gum is amazing. It helps me control my sweet tooth. Now if only they could make flavors like French Fries, Ranch potato chips, and sweet potato cassarole that would be great

It took awhile for the chocolate flavor to come through. The mint really overwhelmed me, but I have to admit it's pretty good.

If this had "just" been chocolate I would've been very disappointed, but the overwhelming mint with the subtle chocolate undertone is surprisingly very good for a gum.

Now where did I put that pack of strawberry shortcake...

Ahhh - just tried the Orange Creme Pop, and it's FANTASTIC! SO, so good. I'm enjoying it so much that I'm actually getting obnoxious with my chomping, which is not usually a problem for me. Now I have to try the other flavors!

I was skeptical, I have to say. But I tried this and I'm really impressed. The word "wow" actually left my lips as I sat alone in my car and chewed this for the first time. It does taste like ice-cream. It does still have that faint artificial/bitter taste to it that most aspartame-bearing gums have (nobody seems to detect it but me), but for the first 5-10 minutes, this stuff tastes like icecream. I actually get the urge to swallow after the first few chews. I also chew these sticks 2-3 at a time because I need my mouth to feel a little more "full", otherwise it's just a stinkin tease.

I have actually had this gum a lot. I know it's a very late comment, but everything about this article is 100% agreeable. I truly love this gum. Not only is it creamy, minty, and even has a hint of chocolate, it's long lasting, making this amazing pull-off even more worth it. I'd give it six in a half gumballs.

Girl, NOTHING, not even GUM, is better than ice cream. But if it's something you can have in class,I'll take it.

I can't find it anywhere. Kroger had a clearance on it and I was hoping they had just repackaged it. But it is gone except for very expensive on Amazon or on Wrigley's site - you're looking at over $4 for 15 pieces!! If you are having the same problem, please go to http://www.wrigley.com/global/contact-us/contact-form.aspx?skey=shopwrigley

hopefully this is just a repackaging issue.
