Trident Cinnamon

Flavor: It's a nice, sweet cinnamon. It gives a little bit of tang to your tounge, but it's not too overwhelming that you can't leave it between your gums and teeth for a minute or two if you need to hide the fact that you're chewing. I like that the packaging features actual cinnamon sticks. I feel like most cinnamon candies and gums lose sight of the fact that cinnamon is a spice, instead choosing to market it as some kind of XTREEEEEEM HEAT or something.

Texture: Starts off a little too soft, but rapidly congeals to a fantastic texture for a prolonged chew. It's a bit softer than most gums, but I don't consider that a bad thing, necessarily. It does develop a squeak (I need to rapid-fire test a bunch of cinnamon gums to see if it's a cinnamon thing) but it's nothing that would cause embarrassment in church or anything.

Overall: I had a hankering for some cinnamon gum the other day, and I realized that it's been a while since we've reviewed any cinnamon here at GumAlert, so I picked up a pack of Trident Cinnamon. It's a choice I didn't regret. My pack is a little different than the one pictured above - instead of "Long Lasting Flavor" mine says "A Classic is Back!" I never really noticed its absence, but a quick Google search yeilds much information, including a blog dedicated to "Saving Trident Cinnamon." It had apparently been discontinued a couple years ago. Many thanks, Trident, for bringing it back. It's a valued member of your comprehensive line of gums, and one I will turn to again when a cinnamon craving hits.
Rating: ooooo (five gumballs)

I am beside myself with happiness that they brought Trident Cinnamon back. It's truly a classic and in my humble, gum-a-holic opinion, there is no other cinnamon product on the market that even close to Tridents original. Why they took it off the market in the first place is beyond me. Thanks for this original, entertaining blog. happy gum chewing & happy 2010.

Yeah.. i am an addict when it comes to gum..and i love trident..I always had the sweet mint..so one day I decided to try the cinnamon..BIG MISTAKE! The first few pieces were fine and had amazing flavor..but I'm the person who chews 10 pieces of gum a day..by the end of the week and three packs later..My tongue is completely torn up! The rooftop of my mouth stated peeling..I have white bumps all over my tongue and on the sides..and it hurts to eat a lot of foods :(

Is it just me, or does trident cinnamon turn into some type of mint after a while?
I wish that Stride wouldn't have changed to 2.0. Their sweet cinnamon original version was the best cinnamon that I've ever had.
Oh well...I guess I keep looking for a good truly cinnamon gum.

This gum actually gave me strep throat. I chewed a piece every night and the next morning my throat would be burning. So my parents took me to the doctor and the doctor confirmed yes I did have strep throat so after I continued to chew a piece every night and I'd wake up with a really sore throat. One night I didn't chew the gum and I woke up the next morning and my throat was fine. Ever since I've never chewed the gum and always claimed it gave me strep.

@NEW WORLD ORDER
this actually happened to me granted I was blowing bubbles so the gum was stretched out on my tongue for a little bit and now my tongue hurts like a b*tch~ finger and tongue injuries are the most painful because you're constantly using them. I have had a hard time talking and eating...

Both of my cheeks on the inside became red, sore and swollen after chewing Trident Cinnamon. VERY disappointing!

I have been chewing Trident and other brands for years, including Trident cinnamon. A few days ago I chewed 2 pieces of cinnamon at the same time, and my mouth really started hurting. Inside my front lower lip, my tongue, and generally inside my mouth. I am never going to buy the Trident Cinnamon again. I may never buy Trident again. It has been three days later, and my mouth is still really burning!

Happened to me a few years ago with Big Red... very sore tongue with white bumps all over. Very painful to eat and drink. Recently I bought Trident Cinnamon and the same thing happened after 2 pieces. Threw the gum away.

I've been chewing Trident Cinnamon flavored gum for about two weeks now. A few days ago I noticed that it hurt when I brushed my teeth, especially at the gum line on the inside. Thought I might have a canker sore but this continued for about three or four days now. I started thinking about what I have done differently and realized the cinnamon gum was the only thing that I just started doing. No more Trident cinnamon gum for me, and reading other comments here just reinforced the fact that this stuff is causing lots of pain and suffering from users. You hear that Trident!

I have had the same issue! (BIG RED) I thought I was just biting my cheeks in the night but the real reason was because I had been chewing this gum (multiple pieces a day) My gums are ripped up and swollen and when I eat a piece my cheeks burn! No more cinnamon gum for me. SO happy to have figured this out!

I purchased trident cinnamon gum 2 days ago, after chewing only two pieces I woke up the next day with a sore swollen tongue. It is so painful that I almost went to urgent care before I figured out what caused this. I have never had gum do this to my mouth before. If so many people are having this reaction why isn't the company doing anything about it. What if someone gives this to a child...

Same here. Burned mouth and tongue

I had 2 pcs of gum yesterday and my tongue hurts really bad too. Bad idea to even try this gum :'(.

My favorite flavor of gum is Cinnamon. I saw this at a grocery store so I bought it. I loved the flavor of the gum. I kept on chewing the gum. Later that same day that I purchased the gum my tongue started to hurt on the sides. I just thought that is was because the gum was kind of spicy and whenever I eat spicy food the sides of my tongue started to hurt. The next day I kept on chewing the cinnamon gum and my tongue was hurting so much. I looked at my tongue in the mirror and on the sides it is like a bumpy red and white line going across the sides. It still hurts to this day!!

I have been chewing Trident Cinnamon the last few days and now the inside of my cheeks and tongue are very swollen and sore. I decided to research if the gum was the culprit and happened upon this site. Thank you for the posts to confirm my suspicions. This gum needs to be taken off the market.

Glad to find this post...I noticed that after chewing Trident Cinnamon gum, I get this swelling on the inside of my left cheek, about an inch long. The swelling goes away over night. I'm really disappointed because I love the taste of cinnamon gum, and would chew it for hours. Guess I developed some sort of allergy to this gum.

Oh no, it's the gum! I've been happily chewing Trident cinnamon for a couple of months and then two days ago the side of my tongue got all sore and swollen. The next day, the roof of my mouth on that side felt like it'd been burnt. Bummer. Well, at least it's not some weird disease ;) Hopefully it goes away and I can start enjoying this gum again, in moderation.

Great taste, but my tongue was feeling numb the first time I chewed it… I thought maybe I burned my tongue on morning tea. Next day I had a piece and my whole mouth was sore… I thought I was getting sick. Left the pack in the car over the weekend and I was better. Found the pack in the car today and had a very chewy day, maybe 3 pieces and now my gums, tongue, and cheeks are on fire - it's the gum. ;-( Sad mom without cin-a-gum.

Inside of cheeks really sore. Gum and throat swollen! Extremely unpleasant! Hope it goes away soon! Can't recommend..

I am having the same issue. Nothing helps my burning tongue. I think it killed my taste buds. I can't taste much. My mouth is still on fire!!!

Why is the gum doing this to our mouth? The sides of my tongue and inside of my cheeks are swollen, extremely painful to touch, with white patches that initially rubs off.

This gum made my tongue swell and burn for days! Couldn't even talk right

Unknown said...

Ah! Dont blame Trident. I use Extra and now have a sore swollen tongue with white lumps and bumps on it...and yes it is sore!
There must be a common ingredient in all gums that do this to your tongue.

Well, here we are all looking for the cure to our sore tongue problems, wondering if we have some dread disease, or could it have been the trident cinnamon gum we just chewed. Yep, it's the GUM! I chewed 3 or 4 pieces back to back yesterday and today I awoke to a sore and swollen tongue. It hurts to talk, it hurts to eat, it hurts to open my mouth because of the suction of swallowing my own saliva and then opening my mouth hurts my tongue! Poor me! They should pull this product from the market! Wonder where this stuff is made! I'm not allergic to cinnamon, just this gum is bad, bad, bad, bad BAD!

Anonymous said...

I literally encountered the same horrible problem!!! Do NOT eat this game. I'm not even allergic to cinnamon, or any food for that matter, and this gum damaged my mouth big time. I rarely eat gum and only had two pieces during a work week and my mouth has been damaged for two weeks now. I can't even eat the spicy foods I used o eat often. I'm waiting for it to cure. Until then, rinse your mouth out with salt and hydrogen peroxide. Natural cure.

Funny feeling. .. said...

I just couldn't put my finger on it. Then it hit me as I was chewing on my trident cinnamon gum......It's the gum that is causing my mouth irritants. .who would have thought this flavorful gum would cause my tounge to fell quite numb and my taste buds are all out of wack. I wonder how long will this horrible thing last.... There should be a warning label on the product.

So glad I found this web site. A few days ago I also had some Cinnamon Trident gum. My mouth felt like it was on fire. It gradually went away. The next day I noticed that the sides of my mouth really hurt. Both side are irritated and sore. I thought that I had mouth cancer. Started to use a salt water rinse. Gradual improvement, feels better, looks better, still worried. I've never had this happen before. Scary!!!! I thought it would be cleared up by now. NEVER USING THE GUM AGAIN!

After chewing this Trident Cinnaman gum, I noticed that my tongue gradually began to become numb. This isnt the first time. Years before, I experienced the same thing. I wont forget again. Im sure that for a couple days, I wont be able taste anything, as well.

How long does the burning sensation last? I chewed trident this week.

I just put two and two together this morning. I had an issue back in December where I was swollen under my tongue and the sides of my cheeks and my tongue was really sore. The doctors couldn't figure out a diagnosis so just put my on antibiotics and it went away.

I didn't have any more issues...until this morning. I couldn't figure out what was causing. And then I reached for my Trident cinnamon gum and it hit me. The last time I had this issue, I was chewing it on a daily basis. I happened to not chew it after the first episode (just by coincidence) and then this pst Monday I picked some up and started chewing it again. I have no doubt that's what is causing it. But I did start googling why the cinnamon gum causes this issue. I found out there's something called Cinnamon contact stomatitis.

What a relief to find this page. Now I'm convinced it's the gum. My cheeks are raw, red and I'm only chewing one or two pcs a day! What kind of sh*t are these companies allowed to put in.. Geez..
Thank you everyone for your posts,

Well, my love of cinnamon stuff lead me to this gum. That was a mistake. My tongue swelled up, I have a rough and raw feeling from it whenever I eat, and I've only had a couple pieces a day. Also, whenever I eat, I still taste the cinnamon gum. A little screwy if you ask me.

I f'ING hate this gum. I chewed a whole pack and thought I was coming down with something from vacation. I thought I had the flu, a sore throat...but everything just didn't add up. A sore throat doesn't leave me unable to brush my teeth. I had sores on my cheeks where I let the gum sit and on my gums from that side too. The roof of my mouth hurts, my throat is swollen. I'm on day 3 and I can barely eat, afraid to because it hurts. This gum needs to be pulled from the market. I am considering going to a doctor because the pain is causing me to take a lot of medicine. Big red has caused my tongue to swell and feel sore but never left my gums, throat, and cheeks sore.

Cinnamon Tridenr never hurt me. I chew a piece until the flavor goes away, then throw it away. I'm looking for something else that contains sorbitol which is good for stomach issues. (Trident has sorbitol). Dos anyone know of a mint that contains sorbitol also????

How long did it take to heal?

Unknown said...

It took me about 3 weeks to heal and I only chewed a couple of pieces.

This trident cinnamon is horrible and is causing me very severe tongue sores and swelling. It is very painful to eat, drink, or even talk. Why is this gum on the market if so many people are having these issues? Please save yourself some pain and do not use this gum.

I had gone to the dentist and they had free Spry cinnamon gum samples. So I tried some. Later that day I thought I had burned the sides of my tongue and throat on hot food. I looked at the sides of my tongue where most of the burning was and there were open sores (almost like canker sores). The burn lasted for several days. I did not however make the connection to the gum. I went to the dentist again a few weeks later, took some gum but did not chew until later. Again the delayed action on the burning and I thought it was some food. I believed I was getting careless in eating overly hot food. Well tonight I did not eat any hot food. I chewed more of this gum and finally made the connection. It was definitely the gum that was causing my mouth to burn horribly. Never again.

I chew a lot of gum to prevent heart burn. I read that the mint flavors can contribute to heart burn so I switched to chewing Trident cinnamon gum instead. I thought I had burned the tip of my tongue on something hot because it was so sore; however, the soreness did not go away in a day or so as it would with a burn. My tongue was swollen and red on the tip and around the edges, especially on the right side where I do the most chewing. My tongue felt like it was on fire if I gargled with alcohol containing mouthwash, drank wine, or chewed the cinnamon gum. I thought I might have a Vit B12 deficiency which can cause tongue soreness and swelling and I started taking Vit B12. I also quit chewing the cinnamon gum and using any alcohol containing mouth wash or drinking wine. The soreness cleared up so I thought the Vit B12 was working. I resumed chewing the cinnamon gum and Voila! the soreness returned. Finally, I realized the gum was the culprit.

After the Trident Cinnamon gum burned my tongue, I gave it to my bf, thinking I had an allergic reaction to it. However, it also caused sores on my bf's tongue and he won't chew any more. He has chewed Big Red for years with no problems. We are throwing away the remaining 15 packs in the 16-pack I bought at Sam's Club. I forgot to mention that the gum also made the sides of my mouth numb. The feeling is finally coming back a week after I stopped chewing the gum.

This happens to me after I eat red hots or any kind if cinnamon candy or gum.. My tongue, inside of my cheeks and roof of my mouth get raw and swollen.

Two words: "Oil pulling"
Google it, it seems to have originated in India as a mouth hygenic.

Anyway, Listerine or other mouthwash definitely exacerbates the damage. But oil pulling can offer some relief, and even some healing therapy.

Meanwhile, throwing away the remaining cinnamon items can also help, but only mentally.

Good luck!

Yep, me, too...I chewed Trident Cinnamon Gum and then excruciating canker sore-like bumps on the side of my tongue appeared. Stupidly did not make the cobnection-or read all these posts-and chewed it again and it was even worse! Ouch! Watch out.

same exact thing. This is crazy.

Everything I've been reading online suggests it's the artificial cinnamon flavor that is the culpret. I love cinnamon, but I will never buy cinnamon gum or candy again. I need my mouth to heal!

Through doing a search for irritated mouth from trident gum, I found this forum. I haven't chewed trident cinnamon gum but I chew trident tropical twist and the watermelon flavored a lot. I think something in one or both is causing my severe mouth burning. I sure hope this is the culprit so stopping it resolves this horrible pain.

I chewed a piece of Extra cinnamon gum today. My upper lip began hurting. My glands in my throat swelled. It hurt to swallow. I got horrible indigestion. My tongue became sore.
No more cinnamon stuff for me!

Well you're not the only one. I bought a pack after some years now but I have always had problems with Trident Cinnamon gum. In any case, I thought I would try it again as the flavor is amazing... but I did so at a cost :( After 3 hours of chewing 2 or 3 pieces, my tongue now feels like I'd been licking course sandpaper for hours. Of course it didn't feel like that while chewing the gum. No I actual got to enjoy it. It always happened a few hours after I had stopped chewing. It's going on the end of two days and my tongue still hurts. It feels like I burnt it (with sandpaper). The inside of my cheeks also hurt but not as bad. Now I remember why I quit chewing the stuff. I imagine another day or two before relief but "Never again!!!!!"

Anonymous said...

Same here. It didn't happen immediately, but after around a week and a half of chewing just 1-2 pieces per day I feel like my entire tongue is burned and have white protrusions on the side of my tongue (I assume this is from peeling skin). It's a shame because the taste is really good, but my mouth just can't tolerate it. The company really needs to tone down whatever ingredient is doing this.

I had the same problem. Tried the cinnamon flavored gum at work and now have white bumps on my tongue and taste buds seem burned. I don't get this reaction from cinnamon rolls so it must be the artificial cinnamon flavor. They should pull this trident cinnamon gum from the market or at least warn people. I have chewed orbit peppermint gum and never had an issue. Never going to have trident again.

Chewed trident cinnamon gum and the back of my throat became swollen. Even to swallow saliva became a painful thing. I had to take pain killers for some days before it went away.
